Seminar on monitoring and surveillance of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs)

The Countrywide Integrated Noncommunicable Diseases Intervention (CINDI) network and WHO/Europe invite countries to participate in the CINDI Policy Academy, an interactive seminar. The aim is to inform and empower participants to improve their national NCD surveillance systems. The seminar will offer participants the opportunity to understand different aspects of NCD monitoring and surveillance, and will give an overview of available tools.

The Policy Academy will not only provide training and build capacity but also serve as a platform for the discussion of progress and achievements in implementing the European Action Plan for Implementation of the European Strategy for the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases 2012–2016 and the United Nations Political Declaration of the High-level Meeting of the General Assembly on the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases. The seminar is the third such event.

The participants will comprise officials of health ministries of countries that requested WHO/Europe guidance in developing and strengthening integrated NCD surveillance, in line with the Health 2020 targets and indicators and WHO’s global monitoring framework and targets for the prevention and control of NCDs. These countries are: Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Republic of Moldova, Slovakia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Turkey and Ukraine.
